The present impressive specimen is arguably the largest quartz sphere of such high quality, and undoubtedly an awe-striking piece in both size and natural beauty. Estimate: 350,000 US$ - 450,000 US$—Lot 497: “Superb German Crinoid Colony.” Seirocrinus subangularis, Jurassic, Holzmaden, Germany. In one of the largest naturally occurring crinoid colonies available outside of a museum collection, these superbly well preserved sea lilies form a spectacular natural composition in rich gray-black stone matrix. The present piece is composed of two panels displayed side by side, boasting a fantastic array of beautifully preserved 180-170-million-year-old specimens in an artwork created by nature during the Jurassic. The presence of remaglypts over the entire surface of the specimen indicates that it tumbled through the atmosphere, turning at every angle, before its final impact. Crystal specimen measuring 38 x 20 x 18in. Estimate: 60,000 US$ - 80,000 US$—Lot 513: “Rare Flying Reptile.” Rhamphorhynchus intermedius, Cretaceous, Wintershof, Bayern, Germany. From the marvelous Solnhofen locality comes this superb example of the flying reptile, Rhamphorhynchus. The genus grew to approximately 36 inches in length, with a long skull and the large eyes of a predator; the nostrils were set back on the beak. The teeth, which were most likely used to eat fish, slanted forward and interlocked. Each thin wing membrane, which probably attached near the hind limbs, stretched from a long fourth finger. The present beautifully articulated specimen would be a covetable addition to any vertebrate collection. Measuring 20 x 14 1/4in; Including stand, measuring 23 1/4in. A gorgeous septarian slab, cut and polished from a gigantic septarian nodule, beautifully exhibits the fascinating nodule structure and stunning natural fracture patterns for which the most desirable septarian stone is known. Displaying enticing patterns produced by butterscotch and cream-toned golden calcite within a black matrix, with natural textured edges, the slab surmounts a basalt pedestal. A stunning table.
