Signed dated and located lower right A Roubtzoff Tunis 1917. Estimate: 30,000 € - 50,000 € (38,061 USD – 63,435 USD)—Lot 139: “Mamluk Koran of around 1330.” Arabic manuscript of 468 folios, calligraphy in regular «naskh» black, of 13 lines per page, opening by a double illuminated frontispiece in lapis and gold, with decoration based on the repetition of polygons in star, framed by blessings in «thuluth». The titles of the Suras «Al-Fatiha» and «Al-Baqara», as well as the final blessing are calligraphed in «ruqa» «white, in an illuminated cartouche adorned with golden clouds on red (past) and blue counterfeit. The other titles of suras are inscribed in »thuluth« surrounded by black. Separations of verses marked by golden florets. Vocalization in red and blue. In the margins, the Juz, half of Juz and one quarter of Juz are written in gold letters. Marginal annotations in red cursive. Final Blessing »Sadaqa allahu al-'azim wa sadaqa rassuluhu al-karim«. Several reader's notes at the end, including a dated 981H. (= 1573). Vintage binding in black morocco with stamped decoration of star polygons. Egypt, around 1330. 32 x 25 cm. Estimate: 20,000 € - 30,000 € (25,374 USD - 38,061 USD)—Lot 166: “Wooden Andalusian scribe chest inlaid with bone platelets and various wood species.” Quadrangular resting on four feet, the face opening to a drawer. The face and both sides are decorated with a rich network of starry polygons framed by four rows of star friezes, a pattern that is taken from the back of the chest. The upper part, the feet and the drawer were added later during an old restoration. (Little misses). Spain, 16th century. 34 x 57 x 33 cm. (1615): “Arabic manuscript on paper.” About 365 sheets, calligraphed in the end and regular »naskh« in black ink on twelve lines per page, richly illuminated with gold and lapis, blue framing nets and gold, verset separations signaled by a golden point, ashirats and khamisats reported in the margins by trefoil motifs, titles of suras in »ruqa« white on golden catouche decorated with arabesques. The juz are indicated in »nasta'liq« red on the left pages, the sheets of the suras are titled in »nasta'liq« red on the right pages. The manuscript opens with a double page to the »shamseh" (right cut, remarried).
