Estimate: 60,000 USD - 80,000 USD— “An Important Olmec Mask,” c. 300-500 BC — Green serpentine with staining from red pigment (probably cinnabar). The life-size mask with finely carved facial features in high relief, portraying a youthful, lively countenance with nasolabial (smile lines) to sides of nose and mouth. With a custom metal base. Six stylized human figures of varying sizes are arranged in vertical order suggesting a totemic or ancestral lineage. They are depicted with upraised arms, a post thought to indicate a spiritual or trance state. Dimensions: 79 x 35 inches. Featured in lot 70340. Estimate: 20,000 USD - 25,000 USD— “A Mezcala Figure,” c. 1800-1200 BC — The monumental standing figure carved from veined gray stone, the arms cut away from sides and hands held to abdomen.
