Though ichthyosaurs have been found with fetal remains, it is extremely rare for the babies to be preserved with their mother. The babies range in size from 19 ½ to 22 inches. The length of the adult specimen is 83 ½ inches. Matrix measuring 104x45 1/2in. Featured in lot 2071. Estimate: 450,000 USD - 550,000 USD— “Superb Eocene Crocodile — A Recent Discovery,” Borealosuchus wilsoni, Eocene, Green River Formation, Lincoln County, Wyoming. Fossils from the Green River Formation are world famous for their quality and diversity. Rare among the exceptional specimens that have been quarried over the past 100 years are the crocodilians. Complete individuals are known only by a handful of specimens. Measuring 72x39in. Featured in lot 2075. Early Miocene, Early Hemingfordian, Dixie County, Florida. A bone-crushing predator, this creature is theorized to have been an extinct relative of both bears and dogs, hence its popular name, bear dog. Length 87in. Featured in lot 2085. Estimate: 100,000 USD - 125,000 USD— “An Incomparable Fossil Shark,” Orthacanthus senckenbergianus, Early Permian, Germany. The terror of freshwater swamps in both Europe and North America until they became extinct 225 million years ago, Orthacanthus’ bodies were long and streamlined, which gave them a snake-like swimming action. Measuring 81x40 1/2in; Specimen measuring 74in. Featured in lot 2056. Estimate: 90,000 USD - 120,000 USD— “Large and Impressive Gold Nugget,” Cue, Western Australia. A large nugget of slightly flattened form with excellent visual “spread,” with minor traces of white quartz in the crevices. Weighing approximately 865.9 grams (27.84 ozt) and measuring 5x2 1/2x1 in. Exceptionally well-preserved turtles such as the present specimen are highly coveted. From the stratigraphic layer known as the F-1 Horizon, or 18-inch layer, of the Green River Formation, this individual lived 51 million years ago in an ancient subtropical environment similar to that of modern day Southern Florida.
